big dreaming

so i've got the house dream goin on. ive got the fast caprice dream goin on... and lately after helpin a buddy unload his rockcrawler, ive got the rockcrawlin 78 dream goin again...

i have a blown trans in it right now.... and wimpy flat tires, and a bed fulla junk... it's a miserable sight......but i see the potential...

I've got a line (through a guy at work) on a parts truck, 3/4 ton truck. complete from the trans back...meaning there is no engine... also there is no bed, but i'd be swapping to my frame so dont need it.....but i might... i dont need the cab...all i want is the axles, hoping that the tcase is a 205 (ive got a 203)

the 203 isnt too terrible... it's weaker than the 205... but it's also... WAY heavier... i mean miserably heavier.... but with that being said, i wanna stick the two of them together...yeah together!!!

They call that a DOUBLER, which is kool. both of these Tcases, are almost 2:! ratio. that is for every 2 times the input turns, the output turns once... so if you slap two of them together, you get a 4:1, that simply makes it easier for the engine to do crazier work, it ups the torque output, that's what helps them guys git up straight rocks and such, along with big tires, and big rear end gears...

i started today with some parts collecting with a set of these

these bad boys will give me a double beadlock capability, which will let me air down the tires, to allow me even more traction. in turn creating a perfect environment to use all of that 4:1 transfercase torque. what is a beadlock, let alone a double beadlock you ask?? simply (maybe) put, the bead is the inside lip of the tire, and what locks it in a typical beadlock, is a ring that bolts one, ONE side only of the tire to the wheel (usually the tire simply slips over the wheel, and air pressure holds it in place, but when you start lettin air out to gain traction, you can actually spin the wheel inside the tire.... eliminating your chance of doin anything but fixing a debeaded, flat tire, in the middle of nowhere with a can of ether and a match...) The double bead lock design is a bit different in the bead isnt bolted TO the wheel, it's still a 2 piece but there is an object (in my case it will be a large PVC pipe cut to length) in between the beads of the tire just wide enough to squish the bead against it, and the outside wheel effectively locking it together...

thus concludes this edition of rockdreamin 101.
